Current techniques have remained very manual, and automated processes are treated with some caution. However, research using modern technologies and tools has shown some impressive results.
Never Without Power - dSPACE The electricity an aircraft requires during a flight is normally generated via the engines. To ensure that there will always be a sufficient current supply to the flight controls and essential onboard functions even if the engines fail completely, modern aircraft have a ram air turbine (RAT) – a deployable turbine that generates current via the airstream. RATs have a disadvantage, however: Their output depends on the flight situation. Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH is using dSPACE hardware and software to develop an alternative, fuel-cell-based emergency power system that supplies electricity no matter what the situation is.
Nord-Micro: Maximum Safety - dSPACE In aircraft with pressurized cabins, special valves and control algorithms have to regulate the air pressure with maximum reliability. At high altitudes, the safety of the passengers and crew has top priority. Since 2000, Nord-Micro has been using TargetLink, the production code generator, to develop cabin pressure controls for a wide range of aircraft types. In Nord-Micro’s development processes, the autocoded software effortlessly fulfills the strict requirements of aircraft manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus, and also those of the FAA and EASA aviation authorities.
